We are custom seating like you’ve never seen before

Hilo is a New York based custom seating studio that transforms vintage furniture into one of a kind pieces for contemporary interiors. Our work begins with vintage hardwood frames that were built to last.

Each piece is rebuilt through structural modification, custom upholstery, and new fabrication. Arms, proportions, and bases can all be redesigned, allowing vintage frames to evolve into entirely new forms.

The result is seating that is distinctive, highly customizable, and inherently circular. Every piece is designed to order and produced in New York.

Our Process

01. Discovery Call

A short introductory call to discuss the project, aesthetic direction, timeline, and budget.

02. Vintage Sourcing

We source vintage seating frames selected for their structure, proportions, and potential for modification.

03. Design and Renderings

Initial design concepts are developed through digital renderings to visualize the proposed piece.

04. Modifications

Adjustments are made to the renderings to refine proportions, details, and overall design before production begins.

05. Fabric Selection

Clients select upholstery materials from curated fabric options to finalize the look and feel of the piece.

06. Rebuild and Upholstery

The vintage frame is reinforced, approved structural modifications are completed, and the piece is fully upholstered with new foam and support systems and delivered to you!
